Key Responsibilities:
We are seeking an intermediate-level mechanical engineer to join our Sydney team. You will play a pivotal role in our mechanical engineering group with responsibilities as follows:
- General: be a driving force in engineering projects, guide them from inception to successful completion both individually and as a key part of a team of high-performing engineers and technical staff.
- Design: work on the design of a wide range of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and other building systems for our institutional, commercial and industrial clients. Develop innovative solutions tailored to the specific needs of our clients, with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. Create and check engineered drawings, specifications and reports. Travel to jobsites to gather design data, take measurements and inspect work performed by contractors. Occasional overnight travel will be required.
- Energy Analysis: perform energy analysis & modeling and create reports outlining building energy performance. Identify opportunities for improved energy efficiency.
- Project Management: ensure projects are executed on time and within budget, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and client stakeholders to deliver high-quality results.
- Collaboration: Contribute positively to the day-to-day office environment and culture at TriMac Engineering. Promote the brand and corporate image of TriMac Engineering in outward-facing dealings with clients, consultants, contractors, associations, etc. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
- Technical Expertise and Training: Stay current with industry trends, code and standards. Identify and participate in industry-relevant training & continuing education opportunities and relevant committees & associations.
- Business Development: Contribute to proposals, marketing and development of new business opportunities and activities in coordination with principals and other staff.
Required Qualifications:
- Registered P.Eng. with Engineers Nova Scotia or another Canadian province.
- 5+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in designing HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems for buildings, and development of design packages including design calculations, drafting and creating construction specifications.
- Experience in performing on-site services for construction inspections, condition assessments, and commissioning.
- Strong technical writing, communication and problem solving skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada, National Plumbing Code of Canada, National Energy Code for Buildings, and other relevant codes and standards.
- Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills, initiative, and ability to participate with and lead electrical teams to success on multidisciplinary projects.
- Proficiency in energy modeling software such as RETScreen, eQuest, Carrier HAP, EnergyPlus, etc.
- Organized multi-tasking self-starter, able to work both independently, and as part of a multidisciplinary team, with multiple project deadlines and budgets.
- Class 5 driver’s license and use of own vehicle; some travel required.
Optional Non-Core Qualifications/Experience:
- Proficiency in CADD software such as Revit, AutoCAD is a strong asset.
- Market knowledge and experience in the Cape Breton and eastern Mainland Nova Scotia is a strong asset.
- Project experience in the municipal, provincial and federal government public sectors is an asset.
- Current LEED Accreditation is an asset.
- Current PMP designation is an asset.
